Learn React

Front-end work often stalls when only one or two developers understand the React codebase. Onboarding slows, state-management bugs pile up, and features end up with contractors. This course gives IT Directors and Team Leads a structured way to build a shared React and Redux foundation across junior developers, so front-end work can be spread across more of the team.

Across 16 skills (about 15 hours), learners build one friend-tracker app and add features as they go: components and props, state, lists, routing, forms, React Context, and finally Redux. They refactor working code for maintainability and troubleshoot with React Developer Tools and Redux DevTools. They also learn the selector and default-value mistakes that cause unnecessary rerenders, and how to test Redux logic.

The course also covers practices that reduce risk in production code. Learners compare Local Storage, Session Storage, and cookies for persisting state, including the privacy concerns with cookies. They then migrate the app from Context to Redux on a separate Git branch, which mirrors how teams safely modernize existing applications.

Training Managers can sequence the course for new hires with Playlists and track per-learner progress and completion with Team Reporting. The result is junior developers who contribute to real React projects sooner, with less senior oversight on state management and performance.

For IT leaders

What IT leaders need to know before assigning this course

For IT leaders: Front-end work often stalls when only one or two developers understand the React codebase. Onboarding slows, state-management bugs pile up, and features get handed to contractors. This course gives junior developers and new IT practitioners a shared, structured foundation in React and Redux, so Team Leads can spread front-end work across more of the team.

Role fit: This is entry-level training for aspiring or junior developers. Some familiarity with HTML and JavaScript helps. Learners install Node.js (LTS) and npm and work in an IDE such as VS Code.

Time investment: The course runs about 15 hours across 16 skills of roughly one hour each. Most learners can finish it in 3–4 weeks at a few hours per week.

Risk and maintainability: The training covers more than syntax. It explains when the instructor recommends Local Storage or Session Storage instead of cookies. It also treats refactoring as a maintainability practice and walks through common Redux mistakes that cause unnecessary rerenders and slow apps, along with how to test Redux code.

Change management: Learners build one friend-tracker app throughout the course. They then migrate it from Context to Redux, which mirrors how teams safely modernize existing apps.

Use Playlists to sequence the course for new hires, and Team Reporting to track progress across the group.

Team Impact

How this training helps your team succeed

Front-end teams rarely struggle with writing a first component. They struggle when an app grows, state gets tangled, and performance drops. Throughout this course, learners build one project, a friend tracker app, adding features as they go: forms, routing, context, and finally Redux. The skills they practice map directly to the work on your backlog.

  • Maintainable codebases, not one-off prototypes. Teams practice refactoring working code so it stays readable, reusable, and robust. They break large components into reusable pieces and replace props drilling with React Context. This cuts the cost of future changes.
  • Confident migration to Redux. Developers convert an existing context-based app to Redux on a separate branch. That mirrors how your team would adopt Redux in production code without disrupting the main branch.
  • Faster troubleshooting and fewer performance regressions. Learners use React Developer Tools to inspect components and state as features are added. They also learn the common selector and default-value mistakes that cause unnecessary rerenders, the usual reason teams decide "Redux is slow."
  • Safer handling of app state. The course reinforces deliberate decisions about what belongs in component state, context, or Redux, so user-facing data is easier to reason about as the application grows.

For IT Directors and Team Leads, the result is junior developers who can contribute to real React projects sooner, with less senior oversight on state management and performance issues.

After completion

Capabilities your team walks away with

Knowledge

  • How React projects are structured, how JSX works behind the scenes, and how components are built and reused with props and prop types
  • How component state works, including sharing state and letting child components update parent state
  • When to use React Context to avoid props drilling, and why Context can become unmanageable and cause unnecessary rerenders in larger apps
  • What triggers component rerendering, and why keys matter for efficient, correct list rendering
  • Core Redux concepts, including store, actions, reducers, and selectors, plus common selector and default-value mistakes that slow Redux apps
  • How to evaluate front-end state management decisions, including privacy considerations for browser-side data

Ability

  • Create and run a React app with Node.js and npm, then build interactive features with event handling, state, lists, and forms
  • Add routing with a navbar, URL and query parameters, and programmatic navigation
  • Refactor working code so it stays readable, reusable, and robust over time
  • Troubleshoot apps with React Developer Tools, including identifying component behavior before related application logic is connected
  • Migrate an existing Context-based React application to Redux and test Redux logic
  • Find and fix Redux performance problems that cause unnecessary rerenders

Readiness check

Confirm prerequisite knowledge before training begins

A short placement assessment on the CBT Nuggets assessments platform measures whether a learner already has the foundation this course assumes. IT leaders use it to put the right people in the right training — and any learner can take it right now to make sure they'll get full value from day one.

  • Questions generated from this course's own video transcripts — what gets measured is exactly what gets taught
  • Instant, per-learner results that show whether the prerequisite foundation is in place
  • Results roll up into team readiness reporting, so training hours go where they change outcomes
